![Foundation and liquid blush from official beauty storefronts](/blog/covers/fenty-beauty-vs-rare-beauty.webp)

Fenty Beauty vs Rare Beauty is a finish-and-shade-system decision, not a single “which foundation is better” score. [Fenty Beauty](/s/fenty-beauty) builds numbered, undertone-coded complexion shades and a longwear natural-matte foundation on [fentybeauty.com](https://fentybeauty.com). [Rare Beauty](/s/rare-beauty) builds a weightless serum-style foundation and a liquid color system, led by Soft Pinch blush, on [rarebeauty.com](https://www.rarebeauty.com). Choose Fenty when you need a 50-shade matte foundation with undertone letters and a powder in the same map. Choose Rare when the product you actually use is a one-dot liquid blush, with a 48-shade foundation that is meant to feel like skin. StoreAtlas files both as stores on the [beauty hub](/c/beauty) and the [makeup](/t/makeup) tag. This note is not a Best of ranking.

[Glossier vs Rare Beauty](/blog/glossier-vs-rare-beauty) is the closer Rare comparison if you are deciding between skin-forward brands. [Ilia vs Kosas](/blog/ilia-vs-kosas) covers two other complexion counters. The wider map is [beauty storefront notes](/blog/beauty-shopify-storefront-notes). Read the [product-page guide](/blog/how-to-read-a-shopify-product-page) before you trust a shade name, because both brands have renamed or retired formulas while keeping famous words on the label.

Both rooms sit on the [skin-first kits](/jobs/skin-first-kits) job page with Glossier and neighbors already in the directory. Those are other files, not a ranking. The same files also live in the [store directory](/) and on the [jobs index](/jobs).

## Rare Beauty vs Fenty Beauty · Who each storefront fits

Fenty fits the person who has been turned away by a shade wall that stops at the middle. The current complexion flagship on the site is Pro Filt’r Fluid Flex Natural Matte Longwear Foundation. The product page calls it buildable and lightweight, in a natural matte finish, with extreme longwear that resists creasing, sweat, humidity, and transfer. It is sold in 50 shades. The page says the shades are all new relative to Pro Filt’r Soft Matte, with more neutrals, and that you need to be rematched. Olive undertones are called out by number: 186N, 206W, 226W, 306N, 376N, 396N, and 416W. Shade codes carry a letter for undertone. Fluid Flex Foundation Technology is described as a smooth, breathable polymer blend with color-true pigments. The page lists the formula as moving with the skin. That is the replacement path, and it matters because the original Pro Filt’r Soft Matte liquid is marked as retiring on its own product page. Fenty’s FAQ there says the original is leaving to make room for a new formula, remaining inventory is while supplies last, and availability depends on the retailer. Do not rebuild a routine around a shade number from the retiring liquid and assume Fluid Flex uses the same code.

The powder sibling is still a 50-shade soft-matte map. Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Powder Foundation is described as light-to-full coverage, longwear, light-as-air, and crease-resistant, in 50 shades, with a fill weight of 0.32 oz / 9.1 g. The page says those 50 powder shades line up with the original Pro Filt’r numbering, and that you may need to go a shade lighter than your liquid number. It also says all 50 powder shades are vegan. An older Soft Matte liquid page has described a 50-shade range after a refinement, and another template has mentioned 59 shades and nine added undertones. The live page wins. If a retailer still shows the liquid, treat it as leftover stock.

Rare fits the person whose makeup bag is a blush, a luminizer, and a thin layer of foundation. Soft Pinch Liquid Blush is a weightless liquid sold in matte and dewy finishes. The product page says one dot blends out and the color lasts up to 12 hours. The page lists 16 shades across matte and dewy finishes, with names such as Hope (nude mauve, dewy), Grace (bright rose mauve, matte), Grateful (true red, dewy), and newer dewy shades including Adore, Spirited, and Resilience. It layers over liquid or powder foundation and over bare skin. Application is one to two dots a cheek.

Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation is the complexion product: long-lasting, serum-weight, buildable medium coverage, a natural skin-like finish, in 48 shades. The shade example on the page, 100W, is described as light with warm golden undertones. The page lists it as cruelty-free, vegan, paraben-free, noncomedogenic, suitable for sensitive skin, and dermatologist tested. The how-to says concentrated pigments mean one dot for the face, with a second layer only where you need it, and that coverage lasts through the day without fading. Rare’s liquid contour sits in the same Soft Pinch logic: seven shades from Gentle (fair, cool taupe) through Sublime (deep, cool brown), described as buildable and streak-free. Positive Light luminizer is the highlight pair. Bundles that combine them are marked exclusive to RareBeauty.com and, on several set pages, ship only within the US.

## Shade codes, finish, and what you are actually buying

Fluid Flex is 50 foundation shades. Liquid Touch is 48. The counts are close. The system around them is not. Fenty’s codes are numbers plus undertone letters, with an olive list printed on the Fluid Flex page. Rare’s blush shades are words with a matte or dewy tag. Rare’s foundation uses codes too, such as 100W. Fluid Flex is the natural matte built to resist creasing, sweat, humidity, and transfer. Liquid Touch is the serum-weight, skin-like medium coverage. Soft Pinch is the matte-or-dewy color you can wear without foundation. Fenty’s shade finder is required because Fluid Flex codes do not carry over from Soft Matte. Rare marks Liquid Touch noncomedogenic and vegan. Fenty marks the powder vegan across all 50 shades. Label claims are the brands’ claims. This note is about the storefront, the shade map, and the return address.

## Shipping, returns, and where the order can go back

Fenty’s refund policy offers free prepaid returns for US orders within 30 days of purchase, refunded to the original payment method, not including the original shipping charge. Only FentyBeauty.com and FentySkin.com purchases are accepted. Retailer purchases go back to the retailer. The page says exchanges are not offered. You start in the returns center, pack the items, and mail the prepaid label via USPS. The shipping page is where the free-shipping rules live. Account holders get free standard shipping on merchandise orders to the contiguous US, quoted at 4–8 business days including processing, and up to 21 days for APO/FPO/DPO. Non-account standard shipping is listed at $6.95, with the same time window. Two-day shipping is listed at $10.95 (3–4 business days) and one-day at $16.95 (2–3 business days). Orders cannot be modified or canceled once placed. Promotional free-shipping thresholds move. Read the banner. PO boxes ship by USPS, and the free-shipping benefit does not apply to them. International carts are capped, on the shipping page, so the order total cannot exceed $500, and Fenty says original shipping, duties, taxes, and fees are not refunded by them. Hazmat items, including fragrance, have to move by ground standard shipping inside the US.

Rare’s shipping policy says contiguous-US delivery is generally 3–5 business days, Alaska and Hawaii roughly 6–8, and Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands 12–14. PO boxes are standard only and can take up to 8 business days. Prepaid return labels are not provided for US territories or APO/FPO addresses. The US return rule is 30 days from when you placed the order, for a refund, and shipping fees are not refunded. Defective or wrong items can go through the returns portal or support at 1-888-892-7273 or hello@rarebeauty.com. International orders cannot be returned or exchanged. The terms of service repeat the 30 days from the purchase date, refuse products bought at other retailers including Sephora, and require the return to ship from the country Rare shipped to. The refund covers the product price and sales tax. Original shipping is not refunded unless the law says otherwise. The site banner pairs free standard shipping with a $50 order. Several color sets are marked US-only.

Both clocks are 30 days from purchase. Fenty’s US label is prepaid and exchanges are not offered. Rare refunds product and tax, holds back original shipping, and refuses international returns. Retailer receipts stay with the retailer. Rare’s pages also say 1% of annual sales support the Rare Impact Fund. That does not change the shade or the return address. Buy one foundation shade first and swatch it before you add a backup.

## Questions

### Are Fenty and Rare Beauty the same shade range?

Fluid Flex is 50 new shades, and Fenty says Soft Matte wearers must rematch. Liquid Touch is 48 shades, with codes such as 100W. Soft Pinch is 16 named blush shades, not a foundation range. A Fenty powder number is not a Rare foundation number.

### Which foundation is the matte one?

Fluid Flex is the natural-matte longwear formula in 50 shades. Soft Matte powder is the 0.32 oz / 9.1 g powder in 50 shades. Liquid Touch is the skin-like, serum-weight foundation in 48 shades. Rare’s matte color is Soft Pinch in the matte shades, not the foundation.

### Can I return makeup bought at a retailer to the brand?

Fenty’s refund policy accepts FentyBeauty.com and FentySkin.com orders and sends retailer purchases back to the retailer. Rare’s terms refuse products bought from other retailers, and the shipping policy says international RareBeauty.com orders cannot be returned. US brand-site orders are 30 days from purchase on both policies. Fenty excludes original shipping from the refund and does not offer exchanges. Rare excludes original shipping as well. Guest checkout on Fenty can add a standard shipping charge, listed at $6.95 on the shipping page, unless a promotional free-shipping threshold is active. [How to read a product page](/blog/how-to-read-a-shopify-product-page) is the right pass over shade counts and “final” language before you place the order.
