![Insulated steel bottles from official drinkware storefronts](/blog/covers/klean-kanteen-vs-hydroflask.webp)

Klean Kanteen vs Hydro Flask is a stainless bottle decision with two published insulation systems and two different lifetime warranties. [Klean Kanteen](/s/klean-kanteen) sells TKWide vacuum bottles with Climate Lock hour claims that change by size and cap, on [kleankanteen.com](https://www.kleankanteen.com). [Hydro Flask](/s/hydroflask) sells TempShield double-wall bottles with a 24-hour cold and 12-hour hot claim on the 32 oz wide mouth, on [hydroflask.com](https://www.hydroflask.com). Choose Klean when you want a wide opening, interchangeable TK caps, and a recycled-steel body with a long iced-hour number on the PDP. Choose Hydro Flask when you want the 32 oz wide-mouth spec as written, dishwasher-safe, leakproof when closed, and a lifetime defect warranty that replaces the bottle after you send it in. StoreAtlas files both as stores on the [outdoor hub](/c/outdoor) and the [beverages](/t/beverages) tag. This note is not a Best of ranking.

Bottle comparisons already live next to this one. [Hydro Flask vs Corkcicle](/blog/hydroflask-vs-corkcicle) and [Stanley 1913 vs Hydro Flask](/blog/stanley1913-vs-hydroflask) cover the tumbler side of the same shelf. [Owala vs Simple Modern](/blog/owala-vs-simple-modern) is the lid-forward pair. The shelf map is [drinkware storefront notes](/blog/drinkware-shopify-storefront-notes). Hour numbers below are each brand’s own test language. They are not a shared lab result.

There is no shopping-job page for this pair yet — other shopping tasks already filed live on the [jobs index](/jobs). Both brands also live as files in the [store directory](/).

## Who each bottle line fits

Klean Kanteen fits the person who swaps caps more often than they swap bottles. TKWide is a wide-mouth insulated family with an internal thread, the TK Closure, and a rounded lip the brand says is easier to drink from and to clean. Caps in the system include Twist, Chug, Loop, Café, and straw caps, and the product pages say the closure is compatible across TKWide caps. The steel claim on current insulated pages is certified 90% post-consumer recycled 18/8 stainless. Finish is a chip-resistant Klean Coat powder coat, and brushed stainless is called out as uncoated. The pages say the bottles will not retain or impart flavors, and they are BPA-free and lead-free. Every one of those PDPs points at the Strong as Steel lifetime limited warranty.

The hour claim is not one number for the brand. The 64 oz TKWide with the insulated Loop Cap lists Climate Lock performance as hot up to 47 hours or iced up to 145 hours. Capacity is 64 fl oz (1900 ml). Weight is 29.5 oz (836.3 g). Size is 11.25 inches high by 4.65 inches wide. The opening is 2.6 inches. That Loop Cap is vacuum insulated and creates a full stainless interior, which is part of why the thermal line is as long as it is. The 32 oz TKWide with a straw Twist Cap lists iced up to 75 hours, weight 18.3 oz (518.2 g), size 10.36 inches high by 3.65 inches wide, and the same 2.6-inch opening. That page says the steel straw is not for very hot liquids. A straw cap and a loop cap are different thermal products even when the logo matches. Read the hours next to the cap name in the cart. A 64 oz bottle at nearly 1.9 liters and almost 2 pounds empty is a camp and haul bottle. A 32 oz bottle is the closer everyday size, and its published claim on the straw build is an iced-hour number, not a hot-hour number.

Hydro Flask fits the person who wants one wide-mouth bottle with a simple hour pair. The 32 oz Wide Mouth page says 24 hours cold and 12 hours hot, TempShield double-wall vacuum insulation, leakproof when closed, no flavor transfer, durable stainless steel, and a mouth that fits ice cubes. It is not for a stove, a microwave, or a freezer, and hot liquids stay out of children’s reach. Diameter is 3.55 inches. Height is 11.00 inches. Weight is 0.97 lb. The page also says dishwasher safe. A 32 oz Wide Mouth travel bottle with Flex Straw Cap narrows the claim to 24 hours cold, adds cup-holder fit, and says the Flex Straw Cap is not for hot liquids. The bottle still takes other wide-mouth caps. TempShield is the insulation name. The hours are the spec. There is no 145-hour line on this 32 oz page, and there does not need to be. The bottle is a different size and a different test from Klean’s 64 oz Loop Cap build.

Klean’s 2.6-inch opening takes ice. The 32 oz width is 3.65 inches. Hydro’s 32 oz wide mouth is 3.55 inches across and 11 inches tall. The travel SKU is the one marked for most cup holders. Measure the holder either way.

## Caps, care, and how to read an hour claim

The Loop Cap is the insulated cap on the 47-hour hot and 145-hour iced claim. The 32 oz straw cap carries the 75-hour iced claim and the hot-liquid warning. A Café Cap is the coffee lid in the same family. Do not quote the 64 oz hours for a smaller bottle. Climate Lock is double-wall vacuum insulation. The PDP hours are the claim, and they are closed-bottle claims under each brand’s own method. Hydro’s 32 oz wide mouth includes hot and cold. The Flex Straw version drops the hot claim and adds cup-holder fit. A rattle in a Hydro Flask can be the vacuum disc between the walls. The brand says it does not ruin insulation and can be replaced if it bothers you. Dents, scratches, and powder-coat chips are ordinary wear. Klean prints 90% post-consumer recycled 18/8. The Hydro 32 oz page prints TempShield and does not print a recycled-content percentage. Neither bottle goes on a stove.

## Returns and the lifetime warranties

Klean accepts unused returns in original packaging within 30 days of purchase on kleankanteen.com. Used bottles go to the warranty form. Other sellers follow their own policy. Processing is about 7–10 business days.

The Strong as Steel warranty is a lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects for as long as the original purchaser owns the product, from the date of purchase or delivery, whichever is later, when the bottle was bought from Klean Kanteen or an authorized US seller. The remedy is repair, replacement, or a refund of the purchase price if repair is not practical and a replacement is not available. Replacements match size and color when possible, or a similar size and color of no lesser value. The claim asks for proof of purchase and a photo. Klean may still ask you to mail the bottle, and in that case the brand says it provides a prepaid label. The phone line published on the warranty page is 1-800-767-3173. This is a defect warranty for the original owner. It is not a 30-day change-of-mind policy, and the returns page is explicit that used products do not come back for a refund.

Hydro Flask’s hard goods, including bottles, tumblers, and food jars, carry a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects. Soft goods on the same page use a shorter term. You ship the product in before a replacement ships. The replacement matches size and color when possible, without a custom logo. Allow 10–15 days once they have it. Exclusions include misuse and ordinary wear: dents, scratches, and powder-coat chips. A lost vacuum is the defect example. A rattle from the disc between the walls can be claimed. A drop chip cannot.

Hydro Flask’s help center allows an unused site purchase back within 30 days of receipt, in original packaging with tags. Custom work is excluded. Damage on arrival inside 30 days can be refunded or replaced. Retail purchases follow the retailer. After 30 days the path is the warranty. Hydro’s claim path asks you to ship the bottle before a replacement goes out. Klean starts with proof and a photo and may send a prepaid label. A color you stopped liking is the 30-day unused return. Keep the receipt. Both lifetime claims ask for an authorized purchase.

## Questions

### Which bottle keeps ice longer?

Klean’s 64 oz Loop Cap lists up to 145 hours iced and 47 hot. The 32 oz straw cap lists up to 75 hours iced and is not for very hot liquids. Hydro’s 32 oz wide mouth lists 24 hours cold and 12 hot. Use the number on the PDP in the cart. A later insulation failure is the lifetime defect path, not a comparison of the badges.

### Are the caps interchangeable?

Klean’s TK Closure works across Twist, Chug, Loop, Café, and straw caps, and the cap changes the hour claim. Hydro’s travel bottle fits wide-mouth caps. The Flex Straw Cap is not for hot liquids. Cup-holder fit is printed on that travel page. Measure a 3.65-inch Klean 32 oz against the holder.

### What if I used the bottle and it fails?

Unused bottles bought on the brand’s own site can go back inside 30 days, in original packaging. Klean states that from the purchase date and refuses used returns. Hydro Flask’s help center states it within 30 days of receipt and excludes customized bottles. After that, both lifetime warranties cover manufacturing defects for the original owner, bought from the brand or an authorized seller. Hydro asks you to ship the bottle in before a replacement goes out. Klean asks for proof and a photo and may send a prepaid label if they need the bottle. Dents and powder-coat chips are wear on Hydro’s guidelines. [Stanley 1913 vs Hydro Flask](/blog/stanley1913-vs-hydroflask) is the next read if the other object in the cart is a handled tumbler rather than a wide-mouth bottle.
