Owala vs Stanley 1913 is a lid decision. [Owala](/s/owala) builds insulated bottles with a FreeSip spout that does two things at once, a built-in straw and an open swig; the FreeSip on [owalalife.com](https://owalalife.com) is triple-layer vacuum stainless steel, leak-proof when locked, rated 24 hours cold, in 24, 32, and 40 ounce sizes, with a carry loop that also locks the lid. [Stanley 1913](/s/stanley1913) builds a tumbler family around the Quencher H2.0 FlowState lid, a screw-on top with three positions; the 40 ounce Quencher page on [stanley1913.com](https://www.stanley1913.com) lists 11 hours cold, 2 days with ice, a comfort-grip handle, and a base meant for car cup holders. Choose Owala when the bottle goes in a bag and has to stay shut. Choose Stanley when the drink lives in a cup holder and you want to switch between a straw, a sip, and a closed lid without taking the top off. StoreAtlas files both as stores on the [home hub](/c/home) and the [beverages](/t/beverages) tag. This note is not a Best of ranking.

## Who each storefront fits

Owala fits the person who throws a bottle in a tote and needs it not to leak. The FreeSip product copy lists a stainless steel insulated body, triple-layer insulation, a leak-proof lid, the patented FreeSip spout, a BPA-free, lead-free, phthalate-free build, a wide mouth for ice and cleaning, a hinged carry loop that doubles as a lock, a dishwasher-safe lid, and a hand-wash cup. The cold claim on the page is 24 hours. Dimensions published for the core sizes are 24 ounce at 10.68 inches high by 3.12 inches in diameter, 32 ounce at 10.66 by 3.43 inches, and 40 ounce at 11.64 by 3.60 inches. A checkout spec list also shows smaller 19 ounce and 25 ounce bodies. The brand calls the coverage a limited lifetime warranty and tells you to file a claim for a manufacturing issue. Some damage is excluded; the claim form is where that list lives.

The rest of the FreeSip family changes the handle. FreeSip Twist, in 18 and 24 ounce, is the slim cup-holder bottle, and that page says it holds hot, cold, and carbonated drinks. FreeSip Sway adds a bucket handle in 30, 40, and 64 ounce. FreeSip Tumbler is the handled cup in 30 and 40 ounce, still on the 24-hour cold line, and those pages label the warranty “standard” rather than the bottle’s “limited lifetime.” Owala ships to the United States, the U.K., Australia, and Canada. Mixed-warehouse orders can split shipping.

Stanley fits a handled tumbler with the straw in the lid. The Quencher H2.0 FlowState 40 ounce page describes double-wall vacuum insulation, a screw-on lid with a straw opening, a drink opening, and a full-cover top, a reusable straw, and 18/8 recycled stainless steel. The Summer Nights colorway lists at $33, 11 hours cold, 2 days iced, 1.49 lb, and 5.82 × 3.93 × 10.78 inches. It fits most car cup holders and is dishwasher safe and BPA-free. Stanley’s Quencher story lists 14, 20, 30, and 40 ounce sizes, with a comfort-grip handle on the 30 and 40, and says the H2.0 body uses 90% recycled stainless steel. The U.S. page you buy is the thermal line that counts. Colorways do not share one price: a Halloween 40 ounce has listed at $50 while Summer Nights listed at $33.

Stanley also sells IceFlow tumblers and vacuum bottles. The Quencher is the comparison people mean: handle, cup-holder base, three-position lid. A 40 ounce FreeSip at 3.60 inches across is a bottle. A 40 ounce Quencher is a handled tumbler of the same nominal volume.

## Cold claims, cleaning, and what “leak-proof” is attached to

Owala prints 24 hours cold on the FreeSip, from triple-layer vacuum stainless steel, and does not add a separate iced-hour count on the pages read here. Stanley’s 40 ounce Quencher page prints 11 hours cold and 2 days iced. Those are different tests. Use them as the claim each brand will put on the page, then judge the lid.

Owala’s leak-proof claim is tied to the lock: the FreeSip loop, the Twist top, or the separate lock on Sway and the tumbler. Stanley’s FlowState lid closes on the full-cover position. A locked bottle in a bag and a straw lid in a cup holder are different leak problems. Owala’s lid is dishwasher-safe and the cup is hand-wash. Stanley’s Quencher page says the tumbler is dishwasher safe. Lids, seals, and straws are the parts Stanley’s lifetime warranty leaves out.

FreeSip Twist is the Owala page that names hot, cold, and carbonated drinks. The standard FreeSip and the Quencher lead with cold. Use the product that names the drink you actually carry.

## Returns and the lifetime that excludes the lid

Owala’s return policy, printed in the FreeSip FAQ, takes any unused bottle in its original packaging within 30 days of purchase for a refund. After the return arrives, the refund is processed within 10 business days. Unless Owala made the error, the customer pays return shipping. A bottle you have filled is used. The limited lifetime warranty is the path for a manufacturing defect, and the brand says some damage is outside that claim.

Stanley’s U.S. refund policy helps when the product was bought on the Stanley website within 30 days. The item has to be unused, undamaged, and in its original packaging. The refund goes back to the original payment method and is described as showing up on the next billing cycle. Purchases from another retailer go back to that retailer. The U.S. site header offers free shipping over $50. Decide on color and size before the first fill. A used tumbler is outside the 30 days.

The stainless-steel warranty on stanley1913.com is the longer document. Products are warranted free from defects in material and workmanship at initial purchase. The lifetime warranty covers degradation of thermal performance when the product is used and cared for as directed, and only when it was bought from Stanley 1913 or an authorized seller. It does not cover non-stainless-steel parts. Lids, seals, and straws are excluded from the lifetime: the page says the warranty on drinkware and food containers, not including those parts, lasts the life of the product. Also out: counterfeits, normal scratches and dents, natural disasters, accidents, missed care instructions, and post-purchase modifications such as engraving or accessories. Stanley may ask for proof of purchase or photos. The remedy is repair or replacement with a comparable current product, not a color match, and custom artwork is not reprinted on the replacement. Soft goods sit under a separate warranty; the warranty page’s own description says soft goods carry 3-year coverage. A cracked Quencher lid is a parts problem. A bottle that no longer holds cold is the lifetime thermal claim.

Owala’s limited lifetime is real on the FreeSip bottle page and worded more loosely on the tumbler pages. Stanley’s lifetime is specific and stops at the stainless body. Neither return policy covers a color you changed your mind about after a week of use.

## Questions
### Owala FreeSip 40 ounce vs Stanley Quencher 40 ounce

The FreeSip 40 is a bottle: about 11.64 inches tall and 3.60 inches across, 24 hours cold on the product page, a locking carry loop, a straw-or-swig spout, a dishwasher-safe lid, and a hand-wash body. The Quencher H2.0 40 is a handled tumbler: the Summer Nights page lists 11 hours cold, 2 days iced, 1.49 lb, 5.82 × 3.93 × 10.78 inches, a three-position FlowState lid, dishwasher-safe construction, and a cup-holder base. Same nominal volume. Different object in a car and in a backpack.

### Does the lifetime warranty include the lid and the straw?

On Stanley’s U.S. stainless warranty, no. Lids, seals, and straws are called out as outside the lifetime coverage. The steel body and its thermal performance are what last the life of the product, for normal use, from an authorized seller. Owala’s FreeSip page says limited lifetime and routes defects through a claim. Read that claim’s exclusions before you assume a chewed straw or a cracked carry loop is covered. [Hydro Flask vs Corkcicle](/blog/hydroflask-vs-corkcicle) is the neighboring lid comparison if neither spout is the one you want.

### Where do the sites ship, and how fast is a return?

Owala’s FAQ says the brand ships to the United States, the U.K., Australia, and Canada, with a 30-day unused return that the customer pays to send back unless Owala erred. Stanley’s U.S. refund policy is 30 days, unused, original packaging, for orders placed on the Stanley site, with free shipping over $50 on the U.S. storefront. A tumbler from another retailer follows that retailer’s window. [Drinkware storefront notes](/blog/drinkware-shopify-storefront-notes) are the wider read if you are comparing more than these two lids.
