![Packed carton on a pale field — the object a label API or a 3PL is written for](/blog/covers/shippo-vs-shipbob.webp)

Shippo vs ShipBob is a job split, not a score. [Shippo](/tools/shippo) buys postage and prints labels through an API on goshippo.com. [ShipBob](/tools/shipbob) stores and picks inventory in its own fulfillment centers on shipbob.com. A merchant who only needs a label should open Shippo. A merchant who needs someone else to hold the carton should open ShipBob. If you expected one product that both prints postage and runs a warehouse, you have two files, not one suite. StoreAtlas files both as [tools](/tools). This note sits on the [dtc tag](/t/dtc). Confirm plans on goshippo.com and shipbob.com the day you subscribe. It is not a Best of fulfillment list.

## What job does Shippo take?

[Shippo](/tools/shippo) is a label and tracking layer. You connect carrier accounts, print postage, and hand the carton to a courier you already use. The official host is [goshippo.com](https://goshippo.com). It suits engineering or ops teams who will integrate an API rather than only click print. It is a poor fit if you needed someone else to store and pick the SKU. A US dashboard is not a global warehouse. Confirm coverage on the official page. Related files include [ShipStation](/tools/shipstation) and [Easyship](/tools/easyship). Those are other listings, not a ranking.

## What job does ShipBob take?

[ShipBob](/tools/shipbob) is a tech-enabled 3PL with its own fulfillment centers. You send inventory in; they store, pick, pack, and hand the parcel to a carrier. The official host is [shipbob.com](https://www.shipbob.com). It suits DTC brands past a spare-room warehouse. It is a poor fit if you will never leave self-fulfillment. Storage and pick fees need a volume model we will not invent. Confirm the current network on the official page.

## How do you choose without a score?

| Job | Shippo | ShipBob |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What you buy | Labels, rates, tracking API | Storage, pick, pack, outbound |
| Who holds the carton | You, until the courier takes it | ShipBob, in a fulfillment center |
| Official host | goshippo.com | shipbob.com |
| Nearby file | [ShipStation](/tools/shipstation) | [ShipHero](/tools/shiphero) |

Shopper-facing parcels we already file — [Away](/s/away) luggage and [Allbirds](/s/allbirds) shoes — still ship from whatever lane the brand bought. This note does not say which brand uses which vendor.

## Who is this for (and who is it not)?

You are in the right place if you run a storefront and you are choosing a label API versus a 3PL. You are in the wrong place if you wanted a shopper tracking paste — that is [17TRACK vs AfterShip](/blog/17track-vs-aftership) — or a branded WISMO page — that is [Shopify tracking apps for DTC](/blog/shopify-tracking-apps-for-dtc).

StoreAtlas will not invent a fee, a coverage map, or a Best of list. Open the official host the day you subscribe.

## Questions

**Does StoreAtlas rank Shippo against ShipBob?** No. The note files two jobs: print a label versus hold inventory. We do not invent scores.

**Where are the official sites?** Shippo lives at goshippo.com. ShipBob lives at shipbob.com. Confirm plans on the host you will actually open.

**Can I use both?** Yes, as two purchases. A 3PL can still print labels. That does not make the directory rows the same product.
