From a shopper’s view, Shopify aftercare apps are rooms you land in after the order — not a ranking of merchants. [AfterShip](/tools/aftership) and [Narvar](/tools/narvar) often host a branded “start a return” page that still looks like the store. [Route](/tools/route) is package protection sold at checkout, which is not the same as a return portal. [17TRACK](/tools/17track) is a public paste when you only have a tracking number. The return window itself still lives on the official storefront locale you paid. StoreAtlas files the vendors as [tools](/tools). This note is how to read those rooms as a buyer. It is not a merchant sales pitch and not a Best of returns apps list. This note sits on the [dtc tag](/t/dtc).

## What does a branded returns portal look like to a shopper?

A URL that still looks like the brand, asking for an order number and an email, then a reason: refund, exchange, or store credit.

You usually arrive from an order-status email, a “Manage order” link, or a footer “Start a return.” The page may show a QR label, a drop-off map, or a “keep the item” offer. Those are merchandising of the return, not a longer window.

The window is the storefront contract. A portal cannot honestly invent thirty extra days. If the official locale said final sale, a polished form does not unsay it. [What to check on returns before you buy DTC](/blog/returns-before-you-buy-dtc) is the pre-cart habit. Read that before you treat a portal as insurance.

[Brooklinen](/s/brooklinen) merchandises a set whose ship-to is part of the product. [Away](/s/away) merchandises a warranty locale. Those store files show why destination and the window are contracts. They do not tell you which portal a brand uses. We will not invent that mapping.

If you cannot find a portal, you still have the storefront returns page and the brand’s support email. Absence of AfterShip or Narvar is not a quality score.

## How is AfterShip different from Narvar from the cart side?

They are two hosts for a similar shopper job. They are not a scoreboard.

| What you see | [AfterShip](/tools/aftership) | [Narvar](/tools/narvar) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Official site | [aftership.com](https://www.aftership.com) | [narvar.com](https://www.narvar.com) |
| Shopper room | Branded tracking page and, when the merchant bought it, a start-a-return form | Enterprise post-purchase layer: tracking copy and a return form that still looks like retail |
| How you usually arrive | Order email, SMS, or a store footer | Order email or a retailer “track / return” link |
| What it is not | A public paste with no order | A small-shop coupon page |
| What you still read on the store | Window, postage, final sale, international path | The same four lines |

From the cart side, both ask you to prove the order. Have the email and the order number before you open a short link. Fake logistics texts that ask you to pay a customs fee are a different object — paste the number on the official tracker instead.

The pairwise merchant note is [AfterShip Returns vs Narvar](/blog/aftership-returns-vs-narvar). The wider job map is [how Shopify returns apps differ](/blog/how-shopify-returns-apps-differ). Those pages file who a merchant should buy. This page files what you click.

Loop Returns is a known Shopify app we have not filed as a `/tools` row. We will not invent that file. If a brand’s return URL says Loop, treat it as another branded form and still read the storefront window.

## When is package protection not a return?

When you bought a checkout add-on that insures loss, damage, or theft — not change of mind.

[Route](/tools/route) sells package protection next to tracking on [route.com](https://route.com). A shopper who paid for protection is not automatically in a “start a return because I want a different size” room. Claims rules are market-specific. Confirm the official policy the day you file. We do not operate Route accounts and we will not invent a claim.

[Passport](/tools/passport) is a cross-border shipping and returns lane for merchants. You may see a Passport-looking label or a duty-inclusive checkout. That is logistics, not a longer window. Confirm the return path on the storefront locale.

Shopify’s own returns tools live on the merchant admin. As a shopper you still see whatever page the brand published. Official Help is [Managing returns](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/fulfillment/managing-orders/returns) — a merchant document, not your contract.

## Where does the official return window still live?

On the storefront locale you paid, in the shipping-and-returns table or the PDP tab.

A portal is the door. The table is the rule. [How to check shipping and returns on a Shopify store](/blog/reading-shipping-and-returns-on-shopify-stores) is that read. Region is part of the product. A US portal copy is not the contract for every country.

If you only have a tracking number and the brand page is missing, you are on a tracker, not a returns app. [17TRACK](/tools/17track) is the public multi-carrier paste. StoreAtlas embeds that official widget on [order tracking](/order-tracking). We do not store the number. We do not use 17TRACK as a returns product and we do not touch anyone’s 17TRACK account.

Related tracking notes — merchant-facing — are [17TRACK vs AfterShip](/blog/17track-vs-aftership) and [Shopify tracking apps for DTC](/blog/shopify-tracking-apps-for-dtc). Use them if you are choosing a vendor. As a shopper, paste the number and ignore short links that ask for a fee.

## How do you use a portal without treating it as a score?

Write one sentence.

- If the sentence is “I want to start a return on a page that looks like the store,” open the link in the order email, or the footer, and keep the official returns URL in another tab.
- If the sentence is “I have a number and no brand page,” use [17TRACK](/tools/17track) or [order tracking](/order-tracking).
- If the sentence is “I paid for protection at checkout,” open the protection policy you bought — often Route — not the change-of-mind form.
- If the sentence is “I need to know the window before I buy,” you are not in an app yet. Stay on the storefront. Use [what to check on returns before you buy DTC](/blog/returns-before-you-buy-dtc).

Then:

- Confirm the domain of the portal still names the brand you paid.
- Do not pay a customs fee through an SMS short link.
- Do not assume an exchange restocks your size. Confirm on the official PDP.
- Do not treat this directory as a live returns desk. Visit links go to official hosts.

If you landed here looking for a brand homepage, start on [stores](/) or [stores vs tools vs platforms vs notes](/blog/stores-tools-platforms-notes). Tools are utilities beside a storefront. Notes explain the job. They do not rank the shelf.

StoreAtlas lives at storeatlas.cc. It is not storeatlas.net and not HelloAtlas at helloatlas.io. We do not run AfterShip, Narvar, Route, Passport, or 17TRACK accounts. We do not invent star scores or a Best of returns apps list.

## Questions

**Does StoreAtlas rank Shopify returns apps for shoppers?** No. The note files rooms you may land in after the order: a branded portal, package protection, and a public tracking paste. We do not invent scores or a Best of list.

**Where are the official sites?** AfterShip at [aftership.com](https://www.aftership.com). Narvar at [narvar.com](https://www.narvar.com). Route at [route.com](https://route.com). 17TRACK at [17track.net](https://www.17track.net). Confirm policies on the host you will actually open.

**Is a returns portal the same as the return window?** No. A portal lets you start a return on a branded page. The window still lives on the official storefront locale you paid.

**When do I use 17TRACK?** When you have a tracking number and no brand page, or you want a second window on the parcel. It is a lookup, not a returns app. StoreAtlas embeds the official widget on [order tracking](/order-tracking) and does not keep the number.
