Everyday vermeil and solid gold jewelry from official jewelry storefronts

Ana Luisa vs Catbird is a metal-construction decision. Ana Luisa sells everyday jewelry in 14k gold vermeil, gold plate over brass, sterling, and a 10k solid-gold collection on analuisa.com. Catbird sells solid gold, mostly recycled 14k, designed and largely made in Brooklyn, and the house line is explicit that the gold is solid and never plated, on catbirdnyc.com. Choose Ana Luisa when you want a gold look in vermeil or plate, and a 30-day return plus a 2-year warranty matches how you buy jewelry. Choose Catbird when you want solid 14k you can leave on, you are paying solid-gold prices, and you can decide within 20 days of delivery. StoreAtlas files both as stores on the jewelry hub and the everyday-jewelry tag. This note is not a Best of ranking.

The neighboring comparisons are Ana Luisa vs Gorjana, Mejuri vs Catbird, and Missoma vs Mejuri. Those notes separate other everyday-gold brands. This one stays on vermeil and plate versus Catbird’s solid recycled gold. How to read a product page matters here because the word “gold” on a title is not the metal spec.

Both rooms sit on the everyday jewelry stack job page with Mejuri and neighbors already in the directory. Those are other files, not a ranking. The same files also live in the store directory and on the jobs index.

Who each storefront fits

Ana Luisa fits a jewelry drawer built from several price tiers that can look similar in a photo. The care guide splits them. Most of the catalog is 14k gold or rhodium plated on a brass base. Gold vermeil is the different object: a sterling silver base, which Ana Luisa describes as 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, plated with a thick layer of 14k gold. The brand’s vermeil explainers cite the usual trade standard, a gold layer on the order of 2.5 microns over sterling, with 14k and 18k vermeil as tone choices. 14k vermeil is the one they point at for frequent wear, because more alloy in the gold layer means a harder surface than a higher-karat plate. Solid gold at Ana Luisa, where the care guide discusses it, is 10k, described as durable, and the help center says the 10k collection is hypoallergenic and nickel-free. The same help note says the jewelry line is sold as hypoallergenic, and it still tells sensitive ears to prefer titanium or stainless posts. Plated brass and vermeil are a different construction from the 10k solid collection. Check the care page on analuisa.com for the metal on the SKU. Vermeil can show silver at the edges over years of friction. Ana Luisa does not replate. A jeweler might, and the brand says it is not responsible for that work.

Site banners have advertised free shipping on all orders. Confirm the cart. A spend-and-save offer is not part of the metal spec.

Catbird fits a jewelry drawer built to stay on. The homepage line is solid gold, never plated, with the house collection made in New York from over 95% recycled gold and 95% recycled diamonds, plus ethically sourced stones. A materials post says a majority of the Catbird line is designed and produced in the Brooklyn studio, and that over 95% of the line uses recycled precious materials. Individual pieces go further. The Rope Heart charm is listed as 100% recycled solid 14k yellow gold, 9.2 × 9.1 × 1.4 mm, made in the USA, at $158, meant to sit on a chain, a hoop, or a bracelet. The 1 mm Catbird Classic flat band is made to order in the Brooklyn studio in recycled solid 14k gold, 18k gold, or platinum, from $290, with matte finishes described as semi-permanent because they polish up with wear. Hammered bands on that page are shiny only. Wedding bands are specified by you and made by Catbird’s jewelers, which is a different lead time from a ready-to-ship charm.

Catbird also sells other designers and silver. The house-line sentence to verify is 100% recycled solid 14k, with millimeters, made in Brooklyn or the USA. A sterling or guest-designer page will say so.

Vermeil, plate, and solid gold in daily wear

Ana Luisa’s vermeil care says the plate fades with wear, especially on rings and bracelets, and that cosmetics sit on the plate. Clean with a microfiber cloth, or a quick wipe with mild soap, then dry. No ultrasonic, no long soak. When silver shows, cleaning will not put the gold back, and Ana Luisa does not replate. Solid 10k is the durable category in that care guide. Assume plate or vermeil until the title says solid.

A matte 1 mm Catbird band is expected to shine up with wear. That is solid 14k, 18k, or platinum, and the warranty excludes misuse. The classic band offers those three metals. 14k is the harder everyday alloy. Ana Luisa points 14k vermeil at frequent wear. The base under that vermeil is still sterling.

Ana Luisa points sensitive ears at titanium or stainless posts and calls the 10k collection nickel-free. Read the post metal on the earring page. Catbird’s solid-gold line is a different construction from Ana Luisa plate and vermeil. Read the care page for the SKU.

Returns, warranties, and repairs

Ana Luisa accepts returns on analuisa.com purchases within 30 days of the original purchase date. The piece has to arrive in the condition you received it, with the original tags and packaging. US returns carry a return fee that varies with the refund method and the product, deducted from the refund. You have to use the label the portal provides. The fee depends on where the order shipped. Domestic exchanges are free, except TikTok Shop orders. The help center also describes a 15% bonus in store credit on some exchanges of prior purchases. International orders do not get duties, taxes, or return shipping refunded. In-store purchases follow the same 30 days. BOPIS orders use the online portal. Free gifts are not returnable and are not covered by the warranty. In-store event discounts are not honored on an exchange.

The warranty is 2 years from delivery for analuisa.com and store purchases. File with the order number and zip code. It is not a replating service. A plate worn through is the failure the care guide tells you to avoid. Read the claim form.

Catbird’s online window is 20 days from delivery, domestic only, unused, in original packaging, authorized, with $9 deducted for return shipping. Final sale includes special orders, engraving, Forever jewelry, piercing-event earrings, and home and beauty. In-store purchases are store credit only within 20 days. Online orders can go back to a store. International sales are final, and duties are not refunded. Two-day delivery is listed at $9, pickup is free, and the charm page lists international DHL shipping at $25. Welding, a repair, is noted at 8.875% New York sales tax.

Catbird’s warranty is also two years from purchase, for Catbird jewelry bought from the site or stores. Loss, normal wear, misuse, and third-party jeweler work are out. International orders are not eligible for warranty or repair. Repairs and resizes need the form, then a quote after the studio sees the piece. You can drop a repair at the Williamsburg or Soho shops. Insure a wedding band in transit. Ana Luisa’s change-of-mind clock is 30 days with a variable US fee. Catbird’s is 20 days with $9 deducted. Both warranties are two years and limited to direct purchases. Mejuri vs Catbird is the next solid-gold comparison. On an Ana Luisa page, find vermeil, plated, sterling, or 10k before you assume the base metal.

Questions

Is Ana Luisa gold vermeil the same as Catbird’s 14k?
Ana Luisa’s vermeil is sterling silver with a thick 14k gold plate, on the order of the 2.5-micron trade standard the brand cites, over a 92.5% silver base. Catbird’s house charms and bands are solid recycled 14k (or 18k or platinum on the wedding page), not a layer over silver. Ana Luisa also sells ordinary plating on brass, which is a thinner gold layer than vermeil, and a separate 10k solid collection. Read the material line. “14k” in a vermeil title is the karat of the plate.
Can I wear either brand in the shower?
Catbird says its solid gold jewelry moves with you from the shower to the pool to the gym, and to rinse it with fresh water afterward to remove chlorine and soap buildup. The 14k page says 14k gold can tarnish, rarely and slowly, usually when chlorine or sweat is left on the piece without cleaning, and fine-gauge wires can still bend or catch. Pearls do not like chlorine in pools or regular showers. For Ana Luisa vermeil, plate, or 10k, check the care page on analuisa.com before you treat it like that solid-gold line.
What if the piece is the wrong size or the wrong metal?
Ana Luisa: 30 days, tags on, a US return fee, free domestic exchanges except TikTok Shop, no duty refunds. Catbird: 20 days from delivery, $9 label fee, engraved and Forever pieces final, store credit only on in-store buys. Both warranties run two years on direct purchases. Catbird’s excludes international orders. [Ana Luisa vs Gorjana](/blog/ana-luisa-vs-gorjana) stays inside vermeil and plate.
