Burrow vs Article is a sofa-construction decision with the same 30-day headline and different bills if you send it back. Burrow sells modular seating that arrives in ordinary boxes and bolts together without tools; the Nomad collection on burrow.com uses precision-milled wood, steel latches, and CertiPUR-US cushions, and a Nomad seating page lists a 17-inch seat height and a 22-inch seat depth. Article sells fully designed sofas, including mid-century frames and some modular arrangements; the Timber 90-inch sofa on article.com lists 32.5 inches high by 90 inches wide by 36 inches deep, a 20.5-inch seat height, a 24-inch seat depth, and a 128-pound shipping weight. Choose Burrow when you need the sofa to grow, split, or fit through a tight stair in multiple boxes. Choose Article when you want a finished mid-century or performance-fabric sofa, a published comfort read, and a one-year defect warranty after the month is over. StoreAtlas files both as stores on the home hub and the furniture tag. This note is not a Best of ranking.
Home storefront notes cover how these catalogs are organized. How to read a product page, returns before you buy, and shipping and returns are the three checks that change the real price of a sofa you might send back.
There is no shopping-job page for this pair yet — other shopping tasks already filed live on the jobs index. Both brands also live as files in the store directory.
Who each storefront fits
Burrow fits the apartment that cannot receive a freight truck and the household that might add a seat later. The brand’s delivery page says modular boxes move on normal carriers such as UPS, which is why the shipping fee is a flat rate instead of white-glove freight. Orders over $1,000 cost $69 to ship. Orders from $500 to $1,000 cost $49. Orders from $100 to $500 cost $39. Orders under $100 ship free. Ready-to-ship pieces are the in-stock path; the product page under the cart button is the estimate that matters, and the brand says in-stock goods can arrive inside four weeks, with some pages showing a few days. For Nomad seating, Burrow’s rule of thumb is one more box than the number of seats, plus boxes for an ottoman or chaise. A three-seat sofa with an ottoman is about five boxes, each around 40 pounds, sized to fit a normal door.
Nomad uses block or other arms, wood or metal legs, and performance fabric, velvet, or leather, described as stain-resistant and PFAS-free, with CertiPUR-US cushions. Nomad Plus adds USB and reversible back cushions. A Nomad Plus page lists a 17-inch seat height, 22-inch seat depth, 7-inch legs, and 24-inch arms. Seats join with steel latches. Shift is the sleeper: one page lists 84 × 32.5 × 33.5 inches, a 17.5-inch seat height, and a 21-inch seat depth, opening to a queen sleep surface. Sit numbers live on the configuration page.
A Burrow limitation belongs in the buying decision. The terms say a complete couch can be returned inside 30 days after delivery is confirmed. Individually purchased seat modules, and individually purchased armrest sets, bought outside a couch order, are not eligible for return. If you return a couch, that customer or shipping address loses the 30-day trial on later couch orders. The modular promise and the return promise are not the same promise. Add-on seats bought alone are a keep-it purchase.
Article fits the shopper who wants the sofa designed as one piece, with a style name and a materials list you can compare across the catalog. Timber is the mid-century example: 32.5 × 90 × 36 inches, seat height 20.5 inches, seat depth 24 inches, arm height 26 inches, 128 pounds. The frame line reads kiln-dried solid pine, rubberwood legs, plywood, MDF, and steel hardware. Filling is high-density foam and polyester fiber. One pebble-gray fabric is listed as 83% polyester, 10% viscose, and 7% linen, with a Martindale abrasion figure of 50,000 rubs. Article says it tests fabrics up to 50,000 rubs and treats 20,000 as the industry reference point it is trying to clear. Loose seat and back cushions and two arm cushions are part of that build. The leather Timber keeps the same footprint and weight line and warns that natural leather varies in color and grain.
Article also sells modular sofas. A Lenae 104.5-inch modular page lists 34 × 104 × 38 inches, an 18.5-inch seat height, a 23.5-inch seat depth, and about 170 pounds. Timber’s 24-inch seat depth is a deeper sit than Nomad’s 22 inches. That inch is the measurement to test with your own leg length.
Article publishes a comfort index on seating, built from upholstery, fill, and shape, so a listing can say where it sits between hard and soft. Custom-color versions are made to order, take longer, and remain inside the 30-day return. The product page’s delivery estimate is the date to use, not the in-stock sofa next to it.
Shipping, stairs, and the 30-day bill
Burrow’s 30-day return starts when the carrier confirms delivery of the couch, not when you finish assembly. You email [email protected] by 11:59 p.m. Eastern on day 30. Burrow chooses a label or a pickup. To get the lower friction version of the fee, the piece comes back in usable condition with the original packaging. The published fee is 10% of what you paid, when the packaging is intact. Usable means no stains, tears, burns, pet damage, odor, or other soiling, judged by Burrow. Without photos the brand reserves the right to assess the shipping fee its own way. Mattresses are the exception in the policy: Lyric mattresses have a 100-day trial that also starts at carrier delivery, with the same advice that bodies need about 30 nights to adjust. A sofa order is the 30-day, 10% story.
Article’s 30-day satisfaction guarantee runs from delivery. The piece has to go back as-new, in the original packaging. The first exchange of an item has free shipping. A second exchange of that same item puts forward and return freight on you. If the replacement costs less, the difference is refunded to the original payment method. A return inside the standard service area incurs a return shipping fee. A return outside that area incurs a fee equal to the original outbound shipping fee. After the piece reaches the warehouse it is inspected. Custom-color pieces are included in the 30 days, which is unusual for made-to-order upholstery and is stated on Article’s help page. Damage or a defect is a contact-us path, not the ordinary return form.
Burrow’s 10% is a percentage of the price you paid. Article’s fee follows the service area, and the first exchange is free. Both want the original packaging kept until you are sure.
Burrow arrives as tool-free latches in several boxes around 40 pounds. Article’s Timber is 128 pounds, and the product page includes a measure-for-delivery prompt. A lone Burrow seat module can still be final once it is off a couch order.
What lasts after the month
Article’s help center states a one-year warranty from delivery for defects in materials and workmanship, with parts, repair, or replacement if Article agrees. Polywood and Sunbrella claims after 30 days go to those makers. An added stain treatment can void coverage.
Burrow’s return page, in the form dated 1 January 2023, is the 30-day document with the 10% fee and the module exceptions. Steel latches and milled hardwood are design claims on the collection pages. A defect after day 30 is a support email under the checkout terms.
Burrow sells performance fabrics as stain-resistant and PFAS-free. Article’s 50,000-rub Martindale figure is abrasion, and a linen blend can still stain. LifeGuard, where it is listed, is the weave with repellency in the yarn. A 90-inch Timber needs 90 inches of wall. A Nomad footprint changes when you add a chaise. The product-page guide is how you catch a photo that never states depth. The returns guide is how you price the 10% fee and the service-area fee.
Once the sofa is settled, two neighbouring compares cover the rest of the room: Goodee vs Schoolhouse: artisan marketplace vs American heritage lighting for lighting and hardware, and INPRNT vs Displate: archival art prints vs metal posters for the walls.
Questions
- Burrow Nomad vs an Article Timber sofa
- Nomad is the modular, latch-together sofa with a 17-inch seat height and a 22-inch seat depth on the Nomad Plus spec table, shipped as multiple boxes around 40 pounds. Timber is a 90-inch mid-century sofa at 20.5 inches seat height, 24 inches seat depth, 26-inch arms, and 128 pounds, with a kiln-dried wood frame and a published fabric abrasion number. Nomad is the sofa you reconfigure. Timber is the sofa you place and leave.
- What does a return cost on each site?
- Burrow charges a return shipping fee equal to 10% of the price you paid when the original packaging comes back with a couch initiated inside 30 days of confirmed delivery. Lone seat modules and lone arm sets are not returnable, and one couch return ends future couch trials at that address. Article charges a return shipping fee inside its standard service area and a fee equal to the outbound shipping fee outside it, wants the piece as-new in the original packaging, and makes the first exchange free. Both windows are 30 days from delivery.
- Do these brands sell only sofas?
- Burrow’s policy also covers a 100-day mattress trial on Lyric, separate from the sofa rules. Article’s catalog runs past sofas into the rest of a room, and custom colors stay inside the 30-day window even though they take longer to make. Outdoor pieces can move to Polywood’s or Sunbrella’s warranty after Article’s 30 days.
