Girlfriend Collective vs Beyond Yoga is a fabric-hand decision. Girlfriend Collective sells compressive and softer knits made from recycled materials, and the signature Compressive line is supposed to feel tight on day one, on girlfriend.com. Beyond Yoga is built on Spacedye, a buttery polyester-elastane the brand describes as insanely soft and aimed at both the workout and the day off, on beyondyoga.com. Choose Girlfriend when you want hold and a recycled-content story. Choose Beyond Yoga when you want softness and a wider life around the legging — including men’s, maternity, and toddler on the same site. StoreAtlas files both as stores on the fitness hub and the yoga tag. This note is not a Best of premium-leggings list.
Both are premium yoga peers, which is a different split from Alo Yoga vs Gymshark. The method that matters is in fitness storefront notes: fabric name, size chart, and whether returns are actually free where you live. There is no shopping-job page for this pair yet — other shopping tasks already filed live on the jobs index. Both brands also live as files in the store directory.
Who each storefront fits
Girlfriend Collective fits the shopper who already wants compression and recycled fiber. The about page names five core fabrics from post-consumer plastic waste: Compressive, FLOAT, Reset, Luxe, and SuperTrack. Compressive is the original: maximum hold, slick and sturdy, pointed at running and HIIT. The others exist so you do not buy Compressive for a rest day. ReGirlfriend take-back and a pre-loved marketplace sit next to the shop. You are buying a system, not a color drop.
Beyond Yoga fits the shopper who wants one soft fabric across more of life. Spacedye shows up in leggings, dresses, and men’s shorts. Copy says it is for the workout and the day off. Navigation includes women, men, maternity, and toddler. Girlfriend is the focused recycled line. Beyond Yoga is the softness brand.
If you overheat in thick compressive tights or you want a dress you can wear to lunch, Beyond Yoga’s Spacedye pages are the ones to open. If you want the legging to hold you for intervals and you care that the fiber started as plastic waste, start on Girlfriend’s fabric guide.
Materials, in the brand’s own words
Girlfriend’s Compressive block on the fabric guide is specific. It smooths and sculpts, uses double-sided mossing so it is plush inside and out, wicks sweat, stretches four ways, and finishes matte rather than shiny. The expert tip is the fit policy in one sentence: your normal size feels tight at first and molds with wear; size up if you want less compression. The about page adds OEKO-TEX Standard 100 on the recycled fabrics, and the brand has published PFAS testing (not detected) on core fabrics including Compressive, FLOAT, ReSet, and Luxe. Those are storefront claims you can ask them to point at. They are not a score.
FLOAT, Luxe, Reset, and SuperTrack are the escape hatches. If Compressive is too slick or too stern for yoga, you are not stuck leaving the brand. You are stuck reading the fabric name, which is the whole method.
Beyond Yoga’s Spacedye, on current product pages, is 87% polyester and 13% elastane: buttery, four-way stretch, moisture wicking, UV protection, machine wash cold. A biker short page lists a high waist and a 7-inch inseam. The hand-feel claim is softness first, not maximum hold. It will not mimic Compressive, and it should not. Shoppers who hate that slick first wear are who Spacedye is for. Shoppers who need hold for hard intervals should stay on Compressive. Recycled content is Girlfriend’s headline, not Spacedye’s. Read the certification on the PDP.
Size and the first-wear problem
Girlfriend tells you the first wear will feel wrong if you expect pajamas. The sizing page repeats it: between sizes, size down for more compression and up for a more relaxed fit; Compressive leggings feel snug and then relax with wash and wear; long torsos in unitards may need the size you wear in tops, or one up. That is more honest than a chart that pretends every body meets the garment at the waist only. Email [email protected] is printed on that page for the cases the chart cannot see.
Beyond Yoga’s size guide is its own page, and the catalog is too wide for one answer. A men’s short, a maternity style, and a women’s 7-inch short do not share a fit. “Uniquely created to flatter every shape” is the brand’s line. Your line is the chart on that style, plus whether the waistband height is 5 inches, as on some Spacedye shorts, or something else. Size charts before you buy is the shared step. Do it before you assume an inclusive brand means your usual size is automatic.
Shipping, returns, and who is actually covered
Girlfriend’s banner is consistent across the pages above: free shipping on orders over $100, and hassle-free returns and exchanges within 30 days for US customers. Several pages say the 30 days apply to US orders only. If you are outside the US, the friendly banner is not your policy until a country-specific page says so. ReGirlfriend is separate from returns. It takes clean clothes from any brand, up to 10 pieces, pays a reward per item ($10 for Girlfriend pieces, $5 for others in the published FAQ), and uses a label that requires a deposit refunded when you buy within 30 days. That is a recycling program, not a way to send back a new legging that did not fit.
Beyond Yoga’s shipping page is equally readable. Orders are packed in 1–2 business days, weekends roll forward, and US free standard shipping is listed at 3–5 business days, with express and expedited upgrades. Free returns and exchanges run 30 days from purchase for orders shipped inside the United States and its territories. Items must be unused, original, tags on. The brand pays the US return label. It does not pay international return shipping. And exchanges for a new color or style are not allowed: you return for a refund and place a new order. That is a real difference from Girlfriend, which advertises exchanges inside the US window. If your size is a guess, Girlfriend’s exchange path is the more forgiving storefront on paper. If you are outside the US, Beyond Yoga’s “free returns” line does not travel with the package. Reading shipping and returns is written for exactly this gap between the banner and the country clause.
Before you order, match the fabric name (Compressive, FLOAT, Luxe, Reset, SuperTrack, or Spacedye), treat a tight first wear on Compressive as the design, and read whether your country gets an exchange or only a US refund. A marked-down Spacedye dress is not the same purchase as a core tight.
Questions
- Girlfriend Collective vs Beyond Yoga leggings
- Compressive Girlfriend leggings are the hold-and-mold pair: matte, sturdy, recycled, intentionally snug, with a size-up option if you want less of that. Beyond Yoga Spacedye leggings are the soft pair: polyester and elastane, moisture wicking, meant to feel good in a class and after it. If you want running or HIIT hold, Girlfriend’s own best-for line points at Compressive, not at Spacedye. If you want a buttery studio tight and you dislike slick recycled compression, Spacedye is the page that matches the request. FLOAT or Luxe is the Girlfriend path if you want to stay in recycled fiber without Compressive’s maximum hold.
- Is Girlfriend Collective better than Beyond Yoga for workouts?
- It is the better match when the workout needs compression and a recycled-fabric guide. It is not automatically better for a soft studio hour. Spacedye is performance fabric and day-off fabric. It will not feel like Compressive. The question is which workout, and which fabric name.
- Is Beyond Yoga an alternative for sustainable sizing?
- Beyond Yoga is the alternative when you need a soft pant, maternity, or a men’s short, with free US returns inside 30 days if the tags stay on. It is not a substitute for Girlfriend’s recycled fiber or US exchange window. If you need the recycled tight, stay on Girlfriend and use the size-up note. Read the international return line before you order from abroad. The [returns guide](/blog/reading-shipping-and-returns-on-shopify-stores) is the second tab.
