Glossier vs Rare Beauty is a sheer skin-makeup decision set against a shade-range decision. Glossier on glossier.com sells Boy Brow, Cloud Paint, and a stretch concealer built to look like skin, with free US shipping over $40 and returns requested within 30 days of receiving the order. Rare Beauty on rarebeauty.com sells Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in 16 shades, a luminizer in 10, and a matte foundation in 48, with free US shipping at $50 and returns only for US residents within 30 days of placing the order. Choose Glossier when the makeup is a wash of color and a brow pomade, and you are fine with a small shade set. Choose Rare Beauty when the blush or the foundation has to exist in your depth, and you live in the US so the return policy applies. StoreAtlas files both as stores on the beauty hub and the makeup tag. This note is not a Best of ranking.
Both brands also sit on the skin-first kits job. Other shopping tasks already filed live on the jobs index. Both brands also live as files in the store directory.
Beauty storefront notes frame both catalogs. How to read a Shopify product page is how you count shades on the variant picker instead of the headline. Returns before you buy matters because one clock starts at delivery and the other starts at checkout. Verify the store ships to your country matters because Rare Beauty will ship abroad and will not take those orders back.
What the shade counts are
Glossier’s Boy Brow is a grooming pomade at $22, 0.13 oz or 3.8 g. The product data lists seven shades: dark brown, brown, auburn, blond, grey, clear, and black. Copy says it defines, thickens, and shapes, with a flexible hold that will not stiffen or flake. It is dermatologist- and ophthalmologist-tested and described as suitable for contact lenses. The formula uses beeswax and carnauba. Cloud Paint is seamless cheek color at $24, 0.33 fl oz or 10 ml, in 15 shades, including blush and bronzer tones. The page says it is sheer enough to blend and layer, and formulated without fragrance. A separate Cloud Paint Plush Blush is listed at $26, with about ten shade names on the surfaces opened. Futuredew is the skin-makeup hybrid at $30, 30 ml, one SKU: a dewy look the page says stays visibly brighter for up to 12 hours, non-comedogenic, vegan, cruelty-free. Stretch Balm Concealer, the current stretch concealer, is $22. The page says 32 foundation-matching shades. Fill is 4.8 g or 0.17 fl oz. Coverage is medium and dewy, with crease, transfer, and sweat resistance, no fragrance, non-comedogenic. Balm Dotcom shows at $16 on the homepage. Seven brow shades and 15 Cloud Paint shades are a tight edit. Thirty-two concealer shades are the wide object in this catalog, and they are tied to foundation matching rather than to a 48-shade foundation on the same site.
Rare Beauty’s site title includes “by Selena Gomez,” and the about page runs a founder note signed Selena Gomez. Product pages say 1% of annual sales goes to the Rare Impact Fund. Hero PDPs print vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, dermatologist-tested, and suitable for sensitive skin. Soft Pinch Liquid Blush is $25, “available in 16 shades,” and the product data matches 16. It is a weightless liquid, one dot, up to 12 hours, in matte and dewy finishes, with a botanical blend of lotus, gardenia, and white water lily. Matte shades on the page include Bliss, Love, Grace, and Faith. Dewy shades include Joy, Happy, Lucky, Grateful, Hope, Encourage, Believe, Worth, Virtue, Adore, Spirited, and Resilience. Net fill was not printed on that PDP. Positive Light Liquid Luminizer is $28, 10 shades, 0.5 oz or 15 ml, from cool champagne through deep bronze. The page says it lasts all day without fading, creasing, or settling into lines. True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation is $38, 48 shades from 1 Fair Neutral through 48 Deep Cool, 1 fl oz or 30 ml. It is self-priming and self-setting, buildable medium to full, natural matte, described as sweat-, humidity-, and smudge-proof. The page says it is best for normal, combination, and oily skin, and that dry skin should moisturize first. No SPF is stated on this foundation. A separate Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer is the SPF 20 product. Do not assign that SPF to the $38 foundation.
Glossier’s cheek color is 15 sheer Cloud Paint shades at $24 for 10 ml. Rare Beauty’s cheek color is 16 liquid shades at $25, split matte and dewy, with no milliliter on the page. Glossier’s wide count is the 32-shade concealer. Rare Beauty’s wide count is the 48-shade foundation. If the job is “a little color on skin you can still see,” Cloud Paint and Futuredew are the Glossier tools. If the job is “a blush or a foundation that exists at your depth,” Soft Pinch and True to Myself are the Rare Beauty tools.
Shipping, fragrance limits, and the return clock
Shopping the US Glossier store shows free standard shipping on orders of $40 and up. The same banner prints other thresholds while you switch countries: Canada at $60 CAD, Australia at $110 AUD, and euro thresholds in several EU markets, among others. Liquid fragrance is hazmat in the US: ground only, and the help text says no Alaska, Hawaii, US territories, PO boxes, or APO and FPO if the order contains liquid fragrance, and no expedited service for those orders. EU, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand prices are described as including import duties and taxes. The storefront line is easy 30-day returns. The help text says returns must be requested within 30 days of receiving the order. Refunds go to the original payment, excluding delivery cost, unless the law says otherwise. In-store cash becomes store credit. Gift returns become store credit. Final sale, on the help pages opened, covers sweatshirts, merchandise, engraved items, and gift cards. Another line says gift cards and Glossier Goods are final sale. Opened makeup is not called final sale on those pages. Wholesale purchases from Sephora, Space NK, or Mecca do not return to Glossier. Who pays return postage was not stated cleanly in the live FAQ. A template with placeholder language is not the policy. US self-service returns need the GLO order number.
Rare Beauty’s US banner is free standard shipping with a $50 order, plus two deluxe samples at that threshold. Processing is generally 1–3 business days. Expedited and overnight orders placed before noon Pacific on a weekday can go out the same day. Estimates, not guarantees: contiguous US 3–5 business days, Alaska and Hawaii about 6–8, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands 12–14, PO boxes 6–8 and standard only, APO, FPO, and US territories about 45 days. International processing and shipping are generally 7–14 business days, with an express-versus-standard table for Canada, Europe, the UK, Latin America, Mexico, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The dollar fee under $50 was not on the page. Orders to package forwarders are not replaced or refunded if the brand believes they were delivered.
The return policy is narrower than the shipping map. You can return within 30 days of when you placed the order. Shipping fees are not refunded. Returns are only for US residents. Orders shipped outside the US cannot be returned or exchanged. Donations are not refundable. One exchange is allowed on the original order. You start with the order number and the shipping ZIP. Prepaid labels are not provided for US territories and APO or FPO addresses. The policy does not explicitly say the brand pays postage for a standard US return, so that part stays unverified. Opened makeup is not called final sale in the policy text opened. An EU withdrawal link exists. That page was not the US policy.
Verify the store ships to your country is the Rare Beauty trap: the international table means the parcel can leave, and the returns sentence means it cannot come back. Glossier’s trap is fragrance in the same carton as a balm, which can knock the order off expedited service and off Alaska or Hawaii. Returns before you buy is the clock. Glossier’s 30 days run from receipt. Rare Beauty’s 30 days run from the order date, and only inside the US.
