Compression shaping and soft sculpting layers from official fashion storefronts

Spanx vs SKIMS is a compression-panel decision set against a soft-sculpt decision. Spanx on spanx.com sells SPANXsculpt OnCore as powerful compression with bonded tummy panels, and SPANXshape as a thinner printed layer. SKIMS on skims.com sells Fits Everybody in a buttery 360-stretch and Seamless Sculpt as strong, targeted compression, in sizes that run to 4X on several bodies. Choose Spanx when you want a mid-thigh short or open-bust bodysuit built around a firm panel, and you can return it tagged within 30 days of placing the order. Choose SKIMS when you want the same closet to cover a T-shirt bra, a thong, and a sculpt short, and you will pay a $6 mail fee unless the refund is store credit. StoreAtlas files both as stores on the fashion hub and the apparel tag. This note is not a Best of ranking.

There is no shopping-job page for this pair yet — other shopping tasks already filed live on the jobs index. Both brands also live as files in the store directory.

Knix vs SKIMS is the live compare if leakproof underwear is the other half of the question. This note stays on shaping. Use fashion storefront notes, size charts before you buy, and how to read a Shopify product page. The compression word on the PDP is the field that separates these two.

What “sculpt” means on each site

Spanx splits the word. OnCore, under SPANXsculpt, is the firm one: powerful compression, bonded tummy panels, edge-bonded sides, described on the collection as a tabletop-flat stomach. The OnCore High-Waisted Mid-Thigh Short lists at $78. Fiber on that page is 80% nylon and 20% elastane. It is marked a best seller and available in petite. Sizes in the payload run XS–XL and 1X, 2X, 3X. Care is machine wash cold, gentle, lay flat to dry. No numeric inseam is printed. The OnCore Open-Bust Mid-Thigh Bodysuit lists at $98: open bust so you use your own bra, adjustable straps, same sculpt language. SPANXshape Invisible is the lighter garment. The open-bust mid-thigh bodysuit lists at $88. Body fiber is 55% nylon and 45% Lycra elastane. The gusset is 80% nylon and 20% elastane. Copy calls it advanced single-layer Printed Power shaping with LYCRA FitSense, targeted tummy panels that wrap for 360-degree shaping, ultra-thin and breathable, moisture-wicking. OnCore is a panel. Invisible is a print on a thinner cloth. Buying the cheaper name because both say “shape” skips that split. The banner on the US site is free shipping on orders of $75 and up, for the 50 states and D.C. Icon members are described as getting that standard shipping without the minimum. The offer does not apply to international orders. A Higher Power name was not on the OnCore pages opened.

SKIMS uses compression levels in the navigation: Light, Mid, Strong, Extra Strong. Fits Everybody is the soft end. The T-shirt bra in onyx lists at $54, in 76% polyamide and 24% elastane. Copy says demi coverage, 360-stretch, buttery-soft, lightly lined cups, a flexible underwire, adjustable straps, and a hook-and-eye. The model line says Michaela is a size 4, 5 feet 9 inches, wearing S. Care near the fiber line is hand wash cold, dry flat. The size widget is the part to read twice. Variant titles include band-and-cup sizes from 30AA upward, including larger cups such as H on some bands. The same description has also printed “available in 30AA–38AA,” which does not match those variant titles. A size-guide line on the page has said wireless styles run XXS to 5X and underwire styles 32B to 44G. Use the variant list on the bra you are buying. The Fits Everybody thong in onyx lists at $20, same 76/24 polyamide-elastane, a cotton gusset, low rise, thong back, true to size, XXS through 4X.

Seamless Sculpt is the firmer SKIMS short. The mid-thigh short in clay lists at $44, 82% nylon and 18% elastane, labeled strong targeted compression. Bullets: an interior silicone band against rolling, strong compression through tummy, waist, and thighs, pockets at the butt to lift, mid-thigh length, open gusset. Sizes XXS–4X. No inch inseam. The SKIMS Body Core Sculpt Plunge Thong Bodysuit in onyx lists at $98, 61% polyamide and 39% elastane, mid-level compression, unlined plunge cups, adjustable straps, thong back, snap gusset, targeted core compression, XXS–4X. A meta line on that product says it takes up to two inches off the waist. That is a marketing measurement on the page, not a fit guarantee. Soft Lounge long slip in onyx lists at $88, 91% modal and 9% elastane, true to size, XXS–4X. It is a ribbed dress, not a compression panel.

Spanx OnCore at 80% nylon and 20% elastane is the bonded short. SKIMS Seamless Sculpt at 82% nylon and 18% elastane is the strong seamless short with a silicone band. Fits Everybody at 76% polyamide and 24% elastane is the softer layer. The percentages are close. The construction is not.

Size, petite, and the PDP fields that matter

Spanx publishes petite as an availability flag on OnCore, and it publishes XS through 3X on the mid-thigh short. It does not publish an inch inseam on that short. “Mid-thigh” is the length word. If you need a number, it is not on that PDP. SKIMS publishes XXS–4X on the thong, the sculpt short, the core bodysuit, and the Soft Lounge dress, and a separate band-and-cup grid on the Fits Everybody bra. How to read a Shopify product page means reading the compression label, the fiber line, the size actually in the dropdown, and the final-sale flag. A guide that says 30AA–38AA while the dropdown shows an H cup is a conflict to resolve on the variant, not by averaging.

Size charts before you buy matters because these brands do not share a size name. Spanx XS is not SKIMS XXS. A model in a SKIMS S who is a dress size 4 does not tell you your Spanx 1X. Measure, then use the chart on that product.

Fees, clocks, and final sale

The Spanx US returns page says you can exchange or return within 30 days of placing the order, for store credit on a gift card or a refund to the original payment. Returns are subject to a $7.00 fee. The same page says the fee is free for exchanges, store credit, and rewards members, and that items must be in original tagged condition. Standard shipping is not reimbursed on a full return. The policy page’s clock is the order date. Final sale is excluded. Icon Rewards terms give VIP and Muse members a 60-day window against the regular 30. There is no wash-and-wear trial in the US policy text opened. Tagged is the condition.

SKIMS’ US returns page says you can return within 30 days of placing the order, for store credit or a refund. Final sale cannot be returned. Items must be unworn, unwashed, tags attached. Domestic returns carry a $6.00 shipping fee, waived if you choose store credit. The banner says SKIMS Rewards members get free returns. Original shipping is not refunded. Drop-off can be a Happy Returns bar, the mail, or a SKIMS store. Outlet purchases return at outlets, and non-outlet purchases do not return at outlets. Combined returns are refused. APO and FPO addresses do not get a label. A holiday extension printed for orders from October 30 through December 30, 2025, returnable through February 9, 2026, is a past window. Do not apply it to a new order. The page does not publish a blanket ban on intimates or swim. It does require original condition. A second block says new, unworn, unwashed merchandise can come back within 30 days with proof of purchase, tags and liners attached. Returns are case by case, and the page says excessive returns can be refused. US shipping on the PDP banner is free on domestic orders over $75, with a separate line for free express over $100. Processing on the shipping page is 1–2 business days. Economy is about 4–7 business days, standard 3–5, express 2–3 if you order by noon Eastern, priority 1–2 on the same cutoff. PO boxes and APO or FPO addresses are economy only. The site says it does not ship to freight-forwarding addresses.

Both clocks start at the order, on the policy pages fetched, not at the day the package arrives. Both charge a mail fee and waive it for store credit. Spanx’s fee is $7 and also waived for exchanges and rewards members. SKIMS’ fee is $6 and waived for store credit, with rewards called out for free returns. Spanx wants the item tagged. SKIMS wants it unworn, unwashed, and tagged. A sculpt short you have already worn is outside both policies.

For a shapewear specialist outside these two, Knix vs Honeylove: leakproof intimates vs targeted shapewear covers Honeylove's targeted shaping. If an old Parade bookmark is on your list, Parade vs SKIMS: closed NYC intimates vs a live shade-and-sculpt family explains why the live Parade site is now a different store.
