Black one-piece on a studio field — official brand product photography

Start with the domain and the contract pages, not the design. Lookalikes copy photography; they fail About, policies, checkout ask, and post-order tracking on the real brand host. Prefer Visit from a StoreAtlas /s/{slug} file when we have one — it points at the official URL we opened, not a guarantee. Check the domain character by character, then the About and policy pages, then whether checkout stays on that same host. This note sits on the dtc tag. This is the method, not a Best of list. Files such as Gymshark and Mejuri start from a homepage we opened. Re-check the host the day you pay.

How do you start with the domain, not the design?

Lookalikes win on looks, not on the address bar. A country-code lookalike such as a .kw host, and brand pages on Facebook, Instagram, or other social apps, are not the checkout. Confirm the official locale you will pay. Read the domain character by character: extra hyphens, swapped letters, a country code tacked on, or a brand name plus filler words (“brand-outlet-sale.com”) are the usual tells. If you arrived from an ad or a short link, open the site's homepage directly rather than continuing from the landing page, and confirm the ad's destination matches the host you are actually on. One domain serving the brand across every page — product, cart, checkout — is what an official storefront looks like; checkout suddenly hopping to an unrelated host is a stop signal.

Read the About page and the policy pages

Real storefronts can say something concrete about who runs the store: a company name, a registered address, working policy pages for shipping and returns. Our notes on how to evaluate a Shopify store and reading shipping and returns cover what those pages should contain. Boilerplate that never names the brand, a returns address that contradicts the shipping promises, or policy text that reads like it was copied from a template are all worth a second look.

Watch the checkout and the payment ask

Card, PayPal, Shop Pay, Apple Pay — official Shopify storefronts run normal, named payment methods on a consistent domain. Pressure to pay by bank transfer or gift cards, a price that only appears after you hand over personal details, or an order confirmation that never arrives are the classic failure patterns. If a deal only exists off-checkout, it is not a deal.

After the order: track on the official page

Paste your tracking number on the official widget — our order tracking page embeds the official 17TRACK tool — and ignore SMS or email links that ask you to “pay a customs fee” through a short link; fake logistics messages are a common follow-up scam. If something already went wrong, your card issuer or payment provider is the first call, and reporting the domain helps the next shopper.

What three scans should you run before you pay?

- Domain: the address-bar host matches the brand homepage you opened yourself, not an ad hop or a country-code lookalike. - Payment host: card, Shop Pay, or PayPal stay on that same host or a named processor — checkout that jumps to an unrelated shop is a stop. - Support From: a reply should come from the same parent domain, not a free mailbox that never appears on the official site.

A Facebook or Instagram shop tab is still not checkout. Confirm the locale you will actually pay.

How StoreAtlas fits in

StoreAtlas is an edited directory: each store file, such as Gymshark, Mejuri, The Ordinary, and Allbirds, carries the official homepage plus a short note. The stores vs tools vs platforms note explains what each page type is for. Use Visit as a bookmark of official URLs — not as a rating, not a Best of list, and not as a guarantee. We are not affiliated. Re-check the domain every time you pay. The Before you buy hub groups this check with the other pre-cart notes. More method essays live on the method hub.

A marketplace tile that shows the logo is a different object. Same product: brand site vs Temu / AliExpress is that split. If the PDP still leaves ship-to or returns fuzzy, what to ask brand support is the written check. After the order, 17TRACK is a public paste for a real tracking number — not a customs-payment page. Jewelry and skin jobs start on everyday jewelry stack and skin-first kits.

Questions

How do I tell an official storefront from a lookalike?
Start with the domain and the contract pages, not the design. Check About, policies, checkout ask, and whether tracking lives on the same official host.
Can a lookalike use the same photos?
Yes. Photography is not proof. Domain, policies, and checkout are.
Does StoreAtlas guarantee every Visit link?
Visit points at the official URL on the store file we could open. Re-confirm the host the day you pay. We are not affiliated and we do not publish scores.
What about marketplace tiles with the logo?
That is a different object. Use the [brand-site vs Temu / AliExpress](/blog/brand-site-vs-temu-aliexpress-same-product) note. A mall tile is not the brand room.
